Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18th, 1918 in South Africa (then known as the Union of South Africa).  He died on December 15th, 2013 in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Nelson Mandela changed this world forever through his humanitarian work, specifically his work to end Apartheid.  Mandela is most famous for his works landing him in prison for 27 years.  After his release he served as President of South Africa from 1994-1999.  Some of Mandela’s major accomplishments were his works leading to the ending of Apartheid and his foundation, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, working to help people suffering through poverty or HIV/AIDS in South Africa.
